Big Week in Pikeville: The World's Longest Yard Sale Comes Through Town (Late Post)

If you've been out on Route 127 this week and noticed a few extra cars, a few more folding tables, and a whole lot of people poking around in each other's stuff — that's the 127 Yard Sale, and it's as fun as it sounds. Running August 6 through 9, this is one of the most beloved community events in the entire region, and Pikeville sits right in the heart of it.

690 Miles of Treasure Hunting

The 127 Yard Sale stretches over 690 miles, running from Michigan all the way down through Tennessee. It follows U.S. Route 127 through some of the prettiest countryside in the mid-South, and it draws buyers, sellers, and curious passersby from all over the country. People plan road trips around it. They fill up trucks and trailers. They come looking for antiques, handmade goods, vintage finds, old tools, furniture, artwork — and half the time they end up buying something they never expected to want but absolutely could not leave without.

Pikeville's stretch of the route is a good one. You'll find everything from carefully curated vintage booths to family cleanouts spread across card tables in front yards. Some folks have been setting up in the same spot for years. It's part swap meet, part community reunion, part traveling carnival — and it's the kind of thing that reminds you why small towns are worth living in.

The Bledsoe County Fair Is Also Happening Right Now

As if that weren't enough, the Bledsoe County Fair runs through August 8 as well. Livestock shows, an Outlaw Rodeo, a petting zoo for the kids, midway games and rides, agricultural demonstrations — it's a full slate of classic fair fun that Bledsoe County families have been showing up for year after year. The sponsors list this year was over 50 businesses and individuals deep, which says a lot about how much the community rallies around this tradition.

While we're celebrating good things happening in Bledsoe County, here's one that deserves a shoutout: Bledsoe County High School recently launched a new drone and fiber optics program for students, made possible through a state Digital Skills, Education and Workforce grant.
