Why You Should Move to Pikeville, TN: Small-Town Living in the Sequatchie Valley

If you've ever wondered what it would be like to trade traffic and long commutes for mountain views and neighbors who wave, we have a suggestion: take a good look at Pikeville. We might be a little biased, since The Butter Dish calls this town home, but the longer we're here, the more reasons we find to love it.

Room to Breathe

Pikeville is the quiet seat of Bledsoe County, tucked into the scenic Sequatchie Valley. About 1,800 people live in town, according to the 2020 census, and roughly 15,000 live in the county. That's small enough that you'll start recognizing faces within a week, and friendly enough that those faces will recognize you right back. Evenings are quiet, the stars come out, and Sunday afternoons still move at a Sunday pace.

Where Your Dollar Goes Further

Homes.com puts typical home prices in Pikeville around $250,000, well below the national median of roughly $420,000. Tennessee also has no state income tax on wages, so more of your paycheck stays in your pocket. Sales and property taxes still apply, so run your own numbers, but many folks find the math works nicely in their favor.

Fall Creek Falls Is Practically Your Backyard

Pikeville is known as the gateway to Fall Creek Falls State Park. Imagine deciding on a Saturday morning that you'd like to see a waterfall, and being there without a long drive or a plane ticket. Hiking, fishing, camping, and fall color are all right down the road, and The Butter Dish is right here when you come back hungry.

A Main Street Worth Walking

Downtown Pikeville has a walkable historic business district with boutiques, antique malls, and neighborly shops like Kudzu Cottage, the quilt store that offers free classes. In season, the Pikeville Farmers Market sets up on Saturday mornings, April through September, with local growers and bakers bringing their goods straight from nearby farms.

Schools and Community

Bledsoe County Schools is a small district of five schools that describes itself as a close-knit learning environment. Pikeville Elementary has earned state Rewards School recognition. If you're moving with kids, we'd encourage you to visit the schools yourself and talk with the folks there, because nothing beats seeing a place in person.

Come See for Yourself

Not ready to start packing boxes? That's perfectly fine. Come spend a weekend. Take a hike, wander Main Street, say hello to a few shopkeepers, and when you're ready for a good meal, stop in at The Butter Dish. We'll have a seat waiting, and we'd love to be the first to welcome you to the neighborhood.
